The blending of two or more seed species before planting is a tactic often questioned by producers.  Blending is best defined as the intentional mixing of multiple species prior to seeding.  In the absence of a single species that possesses all the desirable traits, the idea is that blending species allows producers to maximize individual strengths while masking weaknesses.  The advantages of this approach include yield stabilization, compensation effect and reduction in pest pressure.
